About ASMBYC Annual Honorary Awards
Nominations are due each year by October 1st. They are to be uploaded to this website during the nomination timeframe; the nominations for the seven awards will be received by the ASMBYC Vice Commodore.
Please see the deeds of gift listed below for detailed information for each of the awards to be awarded in the following categories :
ASMBYC JUNIOR YACHTSMAN OF THE YEAR
ASMBYC JUNIOR SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR
Awarded to a Junior who exhibits exceptional and consistent fairness, courtesy, gracefulness and/or heroism in activities associated with yachting, in either power or sail.
ASMBYC SENIOR YACHTSMAN OF THE YEAR
Awarded to an individual for a creative contribution to the Santa Monica Bay yachting community, not primarily for winning races.
ASMBYC SENIOR SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR
Awarded for exhibiting exceptional and consistent fairness, courtesy, gracefulness and/or heroism in activities associated with yachting, in either power or sail.
ASMBYC COMPETITIVE YACHTING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Competitive Yachting Achievement Trophy recognizes a senior yachtsman or team who has distinguished him or herself, or itself in competitive yacht racing on a regional, national or international level. This Award is different from other awards in that it emphasizes competition away from home shores and may be in either, sail, power, or self-propelled craft.
RESCUE AND SERVICE
ASMBYC RESCUE AWARD
The award shall be awarded for the recognition of the recipient’s outstanding display of heroism and compassion within the sport of Southern California yachting as recognized by his/her peers.
ASMBYC DAVID POE MEMORIAL YACHTING SERVICE AWARD
Presented for outstanding contributions of time and/or talent to yachting beyond the recipient’s normal obligation.
Yacht Clubs with Juniors Programs:
DIANE ARMSTRONG MEMORIAL PERPETUAL TROPHY
The award shall be presented annually to recognize a youth in each of the various ASMBYC member clubs that sponsor a junior program. The awardee should be juniors that best depict the qualities of competition, camaraderie and sportsmanship within a yacht clubs individual program. They should either be or potentially be active racers on a regional and national level.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA YACHTING ASSOCIATION
PEGGY SLATER AWARD
The Peggy Slater Memorial Award shall be presented annually to a female involved in the
sport of sailing who best demonstrates outstanding contributions
to the enhancement of women’s participation in sailing
or individual achievement in the sport of sailing.
This is posted as a service to all who may have a worthy female candidate for the Peggy Slater Award. The submission of the nomination should be emailed to SCYA as posted in the Deed and Peggy Slater Nomination Form. Nominations are due by November 1st. The color red is in honor of Peggy’s beloved Kettenburg 42 , Valentine!
