Champagne Series
Champagne Series starts this Saturday, Jan 23rd, predicted to be the first day of sun in a long time. Go to sbryc.org to enter, the online entry works really great and you boat will be added to the list of competitors. Cool. If you are thinking of doing the two races, and want to help insure that a lot of boats sign up, sign up yourself. This will encourage your less adventurous competitors to sign up. Bandit is racing.
Ship Rock Race
Saturday January 30th is the PSSA Ship Rock race, this is for single and double handed boats, the NOR is posted at www.pssala.com.
Topanga & Return Race
San Fernando Valley YC is having their “Topanga & Return” race for Cruisers on Jan 30th. Hospitality will follow at SCCYC. I could not find anything posted at http://sfvyc.us/sfvyc-rcsch.html. But let me recommend these guys as a fun, salty bunch.
Super Bowl Regatta
On Sunday Jan 31 SMWYC is hosting its “Super Bowl Regatta” This is a charity regatta for dinghy racers. I could not see the NOR posted as yet. Maybe it is there and I am just not seeing it. Steve Potter is setting this up and bring a lot of enthusiasm to the event. If you have or can borrow a dingy to race, do it. I might be looking for crew on a Lido.
Principal Race Officer (PRO)Â and Protest Committee Seminars
On Wed. Feb 3rd CYC is running a PRO seminar, starts at 1900 hours, info is posted under racing at www.CalYachtClub.com. I might as well mention that two weeks later they are doing a “Protest Committee” seminar, again, info is posted.
More Champagne… and a BLT
Saturday, February 6th has the second day for the Champagne Series and the Redondo Beach YC “Palos Verdes BLT”. Watch www.redondobeachyachtclub.org for the NOR, as of today it is not yet posted (I think.) And what does a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich have to do with a yacht race, anyway?
Trim Seminar
WSA is hosting a North Sails Sail Trim Seminar (pdf, 552k) at SCCYC also on Feb 6th.
Frostbite Regatta
Sunday February 7th is the King Harbor YC Sabot Frostbite Regatta, I could not see a NOR, so watch www.khyc.org.
Bogart Series
Whitney Times Bogart series, run by LAYC, starts Feb 13th, first two races are mid distance races, one around Catalina and the other around Santa Barbara Island. I like these races because you end up back at your car. For the crew this is a vast improvement over hithcing a ride back from Ensenada and for the skipper it is not a huge motor sail to get the boat back home from Long Beach. The NOR is posted. I am doing this on Transformer the Bene 523.
